Canopy Atlanta is a community-led, nonprofit journalism project founded in 2020. We’re equipping and partnering with Atlantans in the metro area to report about the issues their communities care about most, telling stories directly responsive to neighborhood needs, partnering with existing community information systems, and building those neighborhoods’ capacity to keep obtaining information from records, public officials, or archives. For our first issue in West End, more than 50 neighborhood residents helped us choose, produce, and present the issue’s stories, in collaboration with established journalists. Each Canopy Atlanta issue will focus on a different neighborhood in metro Atlanta’s five core counties, plus a newsletter that covers the region. We’re currently fundraising for the next year.
